Next Meeting

When: 11am, December 11, 2007

Where: Graduate Student Lounge

My name is Ruth Bindler and I am the Graduate Student Society (GSS) advisor.  I also serve as interim Associate Dean for Graduate Education, coordinating the various aspects of the masters major, and leading efforts for the coming PhD and DNP (Doctor of Nursing Science) degrees.  Feel free to contact me at bindler@wsu.edu or 509-324-7242.

GSS plays several important roles in the lives of graduate students at the College of Nursing.  In Spokane GSS provides a computer, a copier, and a lecture tape loan program. Officers recently submitted a request to AINS (Associated Intercollegiate Nursing Students), and were able to purchase computer study aides for the nurse practitioner boards.  GSS has monthly meetings held in the graduate lounge in Spokane and provides food for attendees at these events.  GSS also arranges for a dinner at graduation time for all interested students and their families, faculty, and staff.  The cost of dinner for the graduate is financed by GSS.

When graduate student participation is needed on committees at the College, GSS is asked to find students to fill these positions.  For example, students serve on the Graduate Program Committee, which makes important curricular decisions and reviews applicants for admission to the masters programs.

If you are on campuses other than Spokane, GSS is open to you also.  It will serve as your conduit if you have issues and problems in central Washington.  And check out the Graduate Club at the nursing program in Vancouver which offers other events for students there, and communicates with the GSS in Spokane.

We invite you to join GSS today, become active in your student body, and make your graduate education the best possible experience it can be!

Tips on Video Check-out

1. Please fill out requested info on the index card found with the video and put it in the hanging plastic holder (one card per slot).

2. When returning the video, please take the card you filled out and write in the date returned and attach it to the video with the rubber band. Then return the video to it's place on the shelf.

3. Do not take a video without filling out the index card. If there is no card with the video, don't take it and notify the GSS librarian.

4. Please do not keep the video longer than the posted length of time as other people in your class may need to watch it too.

5. Please leave a note for the GSS librarian if the tape you need is not on the shelf when you look for it.

6. If you have any questions, please see the rules for video check out posted over the shelves containing the videos or contact the GSS librarian.
